Community Litter Pick

Brighter Wymondham Group were thrilled when more than 130 volunteers turned up at four venues across Wymondham to begin a Community Clear-up on Saturday. Representatives from WyNG(Wymondham Nature Group), Wymondham Town Council, Girl Guides, Cubs, Scouts and Beavers turned up at the event. also U3A and the Wymondham High School Green Team plus lots of local residents. A staggering 780 kg… more than ¾ tonne of litter and waste was collected from around the town including a Gas bottle and a bike.

Bill Bryson chair of CPRE (Campaign for Protection of Rural England) was delighted to give his wholehearted support and congratulations, This event cames at the beginning of CPRE's launch of "Stop the Drop" litter campaign.
Waitrose have awarded £50 to the 2nd Scouts group as they were the group who the committee felt had made the most impact on the day, and a chocolate hamper to Ruth Parsons and her group as they had collected the most rubbish.
Oaktree Partnership in Wymondham have donated a further £150 worth of prizes as there were so many more individuals and families than expected. Huge efforts were also made on the day at Ashleigh School by staff and volunteers to tidy up the Sensory Garden and create a new `Mud-Play` area and special thanks to Rod Crockford for his help.
Len Elston Mayor of Wymondham said "It is great to see so many families and groups getting involved and take a pride in their community"
Brighter Wymondham Group would like to say a huge Thank You to all who made it such a success.Plans are in progress to organise a huge Community Picnic as a Thank You for all those who give their time in so many ways around the town as volunteers.
